Looking for places that feel truly hidden? Mindanao has so many spots that are peaceful, beautiful, and away from the usual crowds.
Born and raised here, I’m excited to share some of my favorite places. As an Indigenous Mandaya, I feel a deep connection to this land and its treasures.
Mindanao is unlike anywhere else in the Philippines. It has a quiet, untamed beauty that really stands out. The beaches here are more serene, more untouched, and less crowded.
The Mindanaonon people are incredibly warm and welcoming, and there’s this special vibe that makes you feel right at home.
From breathtaking beaches to waterfalls hidden deep in the forest, this place is full of magic.

11 Mindanao Hidden Gems
1. Hinatuan Enchanted River
I was really curious about what this place looked like in person, and we finally got the chance to visit last summer. The water is crystal clear and shines bright blue. No one really knows how deep it goes or why it looks so magical.
Locals call it Enchanted River because seeing it in person feels unreal. The colors, the silence, and the way the water moves feel so dreamy.
I’ve been here with my family, and all I can say is that I’m speechless. The beauty of this place is beyond words.
You’ll find it in Surigao del Sur. Try to visit during the fish feeding times at 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm so you can watch the fish feed. Afterward, they disappear again.
We’re not allowed to swim in the center of the river, but we were able to swim on the right side, which is safer. The current here can be pretty strong, especially in the afternoon, so it’s best to stay on the calmer side.

2. Dahican Beach
Dahican Beach is just 30 minutes away from where I live, and I love the vibe and beauty of this place. The beach stretches for seven kilometers of white sand, and the waves are perfect for surfers.
Even though I don’t know how to surf, I’ve seen plenty of people rent boards and catch some amazing waves here. If you’re into surfing, this is definitely the place to be.
The beach is clean and peaceful, with a stunning sunrise. There are bars nearby, so grabbing a cold beer is super easy.
Don’t forget to try the fresh buko here, it’s incredibly sweet and tasty! 😉
You can also meet the Amihan Boys, locals who can teach you how to ride a wave if you’re up for it.
3. Mt. Apo Natural Park
Mt. Apo is the highest mountain in the Philippines and one of the most stunning Mindanao hidden gems. You don’t need to reach the peak to enjoy it.
Today, many trekkers come to see its raw, untouched beauty. The natural park has easy trails, fresh springs, a quiet lake, and peaceful views.
The air is cool, and the forest feels like a hidden world with mossy trees, thick plants, and green-covered rocks. The trail feels wild and untouched, like you’re deep in nature with no one else around.
In some spots, you can even look down at the clouds. Take your time, enjoy the quiet, and let nature recharge you in this one-of-a-kind place in Mindanao.
4. Asik-Asik Falls
Asik-Asik Falls is not your usual waterfall. It looks like a wall of water falling from a garden. The rocks are covered in moss, and the water sprays out like magic.
It’s hidden in North Cotabato. Getting there means a bumpy ride and a bit of a walk. But once you arrive, the cool mist on your face feels amazing.
5. Lake Sebu
Lake Sebu is a peaceful place with beautiful nature and local culture. The T’boli people live here and are known for making colorful T’nalak cloth by hand. Their patterns tell stories passed down through generations. You can ride a small boat on the lake and enjoy the view.
Then head to the famous “Seven Falls” , each one looks different and shows off nature’s power.
For something exciting, try the zipline over the waterfalls.
6. Aliwagwag Falls
The Aliwagwag River, where you can find the beautiful Aliwagwag Falls, is located in Davao Oriental. The falls have over 130 steps of flowing water that look like a natural staircase made by nature. It’s easy to see because it’s right next to the road.
You can hike through the forest, swim in the pools, or just sit and listen to the loud, fresh, and lively sound of the water.
In front of the river, there are local shops where you can buy souvenirs and try some delicious local food.
7. Samal Island
Samal Island is just a short ferry ride from Davao City. From the airport, you can quickly grab a taxi cab and head to the barge, which will take you directly to the island.
Once you arrive, you’ll find plenty of resorts with white-sand beaches and clear blue waters. One of the famous resorts on the island is Pearl Farm Beach Resort, known for its luxury accommodations and breathtaking views. T

Cape San Agustin is located at the far end of Mindanao, featuring tall cliffs, strong waves, and historic lighthouses that tell stories from the past.
From here, you can enjoy stunning views of both the Davao Gulf and the Celebes Sea. The view seems endless, making it a great spot to relax, take photos, and enjoy the ocean breeze.
You can also explore nearby beaches, go birdwatching, and experience the local culture.
9. Siargao Island
Siargao is famous for surfing, especially the big waves at Cloud 9. But even if you don’t surf, there’s still a lot to love.
You can explore rock pools, lagoons, and nearby islands. Eat fresh seafood, drink coconut juice, and chill in beach bars.
Many tourists from all over the world visit for its unique island vibe. The roads are lined with palm trees, and the sunsets are amazing. You can swim, ride a motorbike around, or just enjoy the slow island life.
Some people say Siargao has a “curse.” They come for a short trip but end up staying much longer.
It’s not a bad thing, the island is just that hard to leave.
10. Baganga Sunrise Boulevard
This place in Davao Oriental is perfect for early risers. The sunrise here lights up the beach with golden colors.
You can walk along the shore or sit by the water and enjoy the calm. It’s quiet and simple, but that’s what makes it special.

Tinuy-an Falls is often called the Niagara Falls of the Philippines. It’s wide, powerful, and beautiful.
You can swim right at the bottom of the falls. If you visit in the morning, you might even see a rainbow in the mist.
