During our trip to Ilocos Norte, my family and I had the chance to visit some of the best tourist spots in the region.
One of the highlights was seeing the impressive Bangui Windmills. The sight of the towering wind turbines against the clear blue sky and the West Philippine Sea was breathtaking!
In this guide, I’ll tell you what my experience with these majestic windmills was and if this is worth a visit.
What are the Bangui Windmills?
The Bangui Windmills, located in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, are a series of giant wind turbines that stretch along the coast of Bangui Bay.
Known for their iconic and picturesque presence, these windmills not only provide sustainable energy but also attract tourists with their stunning backdrop of the West Philippine Sea.
As the first power-generating windmill farm in Southeast Asia, the Bangui Windmills symbolize both innovation and environmental stewardship, making them a must-see landmark in the region.

Where to Find Them
The Bangui Windmills can be found along the shoreline of Bangui Bay in Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
They are situated in the municipality of Bangui, approximately 55 kilometers north of Laoag City, the capital of Ilocos Norte.
This iconic wind farm is easily accessible by road, offering visitors a scenic drive along the coast with picturesque views of the windmills and the surrounding sea.
Near the windmills, you can also find various souvenir shops, including ones with mini windmills, where my family and I bought a lot of local crafts and keepsakes to remember our visit.
It was a delightful experience exploring the area and bringing home pieces of Ilocano culture.

How Much is the Entrance Fee For Bangui Windmills?
There is no entrance fee to visit the Bangui Windmills. Visitors can freely explore the area and enjoy the views of the wind farm and the West Philippine Sea without any charge.
In our Bangui Windmills experience, a vlogger known for making Insta-worthy photos and videos even approached us and insisted on taking some pictures and videos for us!
He didn’t ask for any payment but was selling overpriced ice creams, adding a quirky touch to our visit.
It was a memorable part of our trip, capturing beautiful moments without spending extra.

When’s the Best Time To Visit
The best time to visit the Bangui Windmills is during the dry season, from November to April when the weather is clear and ideal for sightseeing.
These months offer sunny days and cooler temperatures, perfect for capturing stunning photos of the windmills against the backdrop of the West Philippine Sea.
Early mornings and late afternoons are particularly pleasant, providing softer lighting and breathtaking views of the sunrise or sunset over the wind farm.
Should You Bring Anything Special
When visiting the Bangui Windmills, there’s no need for any special equipment, but you can bring few essentials to enhance your experience.
Sunscreen and a hat are recommended to protect against the sun, as well as a camera or smartphone to capture the beautiful views.
Comfortable footwear is advisable for walking around the area, and a water bottle will help keep you hydrated.
If you plan on shopping at the nearby souvenir stalls, bringing some cash is also a good idea.
We went there during lunchtime, and the heat was superb.
I highly recommend bringing your own umbrellas. I forgot to bring one, but one of the vendors from whom I bought a windmill souvenir lent me her umbrella because she saw me struggling to carry my daughter.
Additionally, I advise wearing closed shoes. I wore flip-flops, and the sand was extremely hot!

Visiting the Bangui Windmills was a memorable experience and it gives us a chance to appreciate the beauty of renewable energy.
It’s definitely worth a visit, but don’t forget to bring your own umbrella, especially if you go during the midday heat.
