20 Best Activities & Tourist Spots in Bohol You Can’t-Miss

I went to Bohol last summer of 2024 for a 5-day itinerary and it’s the last province on my “Central Visayas to visit province” checklist.

Thinking about my trip made me want to return to the island and explore its other side.

But for now, I’ll reminisce about the places I went to last time. And of course, I’ll share 20 of the best activities and tourist spots in Bohol that you can visit in 2025.

I’m also talking about the places beyond the famous Chocolate Hills. So, without further ado, let’s begin!

1. The Chocolate Hills ⛰️

You can’t think of Bohol without thinking of Chocolate Hills!

Undoubtedly Bohol’s crown jewel is these geological wonders. The Chocolate Hills are over 1,200 cone-shaped hills that carpet the province’s landscape like giant Hershey’s Kisses.

During the dry season, which lasts from March to May, the grassy hills turn a rich, chocolate-brown color due to the dried-up grass that covers them.

We visited Bohol on the last days of April and we could still spot some greens on it.

These unique formations are believed to be ancient uplifted coral reefs that have been weathered over millions of years by rain and erosion.

If you visit this UNESCO site, be prepared to go up the hill via steep stairs, and if you’re in luck, not on a rainy day or a very hot sunny day.

2. Bilar Man-Made Forest 🌳

This haven of towering mahogany trees, planted way back in the 1950s, is a real testament to Bohol’s dedication to growing back its forests.

These giants stand tall and proud with branches reaching out to each other overhead, creating a cool, leafy tunnel to drive through.

It’s shady and calming, like riding or walking through a cathedral of leaves.

A lot of people take photos in the center of the road here like no vehicles are passing by! But I guess, people are already used to it that some drivers will wait for them before driving again.

Still, you should be careful because not every driver is the same. And if possible, wait for a clear road and then take a good picture quickly.

If you’re not satisfied, you can wait and do it again, all while breathing the fresh air.

3. The Philippine Tarsier 👀

To be honest, I don’t like to add this one to the list but I was thinking if a lot of people were aware of their situation in Bohol, maybe positive changes will occur in the future.

I’ll talk about some of what I witnessed on my visit to one of the tourist spots in Bohol.

I was happy seeing the Philippine Tarsier, the world’s tiniest primate, in real life! They’re cute, about the size of your hand, and have huge eyes that take up most of their face.

They’re also nocturnal animals like bats and owls, so they sleep most of the day curled up in the leaves.

Saying that, when tourists visit them, it’s etiquette to remain quiet if possible. But that’s not the case most of the time, especially in peak season!

Imagine yourself in their shoes, being disturbed in your sleep for days or even weeks.

Now, for the tourist places, they put up tarpaulins on what to do and not when visiting them (kudos), but some tourists just can’t contain their emotions.

Please, when you visit, remember these guys are shy and easily stressed by loud noises and bright lights. So, keep your voice down, turn off your flash, and try not to make any sudden movements.

4. Loboc River Cruise ⛵

The Loboc River cruise is a must-do for any Bohol visitor. It’s a chance to chill out on a big, slow boat that cruises down the Loboc River.

The river itself is like a green highway winding between rolling hills.

The banks are all jungled-up with tall palm trees and every now and then you can spot little villages with colorful houses peeking out from the trees.

The coolest part is that your ride is also a floating restaurant!

They lay out a whole spread of delicious Filipino food – think things like fresh fish, chicken barbecue, and maybe some spring rolls. You can pile your plate high and eat while you cruise along.

The price for the Loboc River Cruise increased this year, thus I didn’t try it last time thinking that I already did the same a couple of years ago in Dapitan.

5. Danao Adventure Park 🚡

Calling all thrill-seekers! Danao Adventure Park offers a zipline course that lets you soar through the treetops, witnessing panoramic views of the Bohol landscape.

Test your courage with their high ropes course or cool off with a refreshing dip in their swimming pool.

For adrenaline junkies who are looking for a playground in Bohol, Danao Adventure Park is the place to go!

They’ve got this amazing zipline course that takes you flying through the air, way up high over the trees. You can see for miles across the whole island of Bohol and it’s a pretty incredible view.

But that’s not all! If you’re feeling brave, you can try out their high ropes course. It’s a series of bridges, ropes, and platforms strung up between tall trees. It’s like an obstacle course in the sky!

If that’s still not enough, shout all your worries away while doing the bungee jump!

And if all that climbing gets you hot and sweaty, don’t worry – they have a cool swimming pool where you can take a refreshing dip and relax afterward.

6. Tagbilaran National Museum 🏛️

The Tagbilaran National Museum is a cool place to step back in time and learn about Bohol’s fascinating history.

It’s the first tourist spot in Bohol I visited because it’s near to my hotel and it’s also entrance-free.

It’s housed in this old Spanish colonial building right in Tagbilaran City, and as soon as you walk in, you can feel the history all around you.

There’s a whole section devoted to the indigenous people of Bohol, the Boholanos.

You’ll see the tools they used, the clothes they wore, and even some of their artwork.  It’s interesting to see how they lived way back when.

Another part of the museum covers the Spanish colonial era. The Spanish ruled the Philippines for hundreds of years, and Bohol wasn’t any different.

Here you’ll find things like religious statues, furniture from that period, and everyday objects people used.

And of course, no trip to the Tagbilaran National Museum would be complete without checking out the area’s amazing wildlife.

They’ve got exhibits on everything from tiny insects to the superstar of Bohol, the adorable tarsier.

I also got to see one of the most expensive salts in the world – the Asin Tibuok!

7. Blood Compact Shrine 🤝🏼

History buffs, listen up! You won’t want to miss the Blood Compact Shrine in Tagbilaran. This landmark remembers a super important event that happened way back in 1565.

It’s all about a blood oath ceremony, which is basically a fancy way of saying a promise sealed with blood.

Back then, a Spanish explorer named Miguel López de Legazpi met with a local chief named Datu Sikatuna. They wanted to make peace and be friends, so they performed this special ceremony.

The shrine has a big statue showing this event, with Legazpi and Sikatuna facing each other and looking all serious.

It’s a cool reminder of this historic moment when two different cultures decided to get along. 

Just remember, the actual spot where the blood compact happened is believed to be somewhere else in Bohol now.

At the entrance, you can also see the “I Love Tagbilaran” signage overlooking the sea and mangroves in the background.

8. Baclayon Church ⛪

Baclayon Church isn’t just any church; it’s actually the oldest stone church in the entire province of Bohol, completed way back in 1727!

That means it’s been standing strong for over 297 years – can you imagine?

The first thing that grabs you is the facade, the front part of the church. It’s really grand and imposing, made out of this beautiful coral stonework that’s all intricate and unique.

It looks like something out of a Spanish history book. 

While Baclayon Church isn’t technically a UNESCO World Heritage Site itself, it’s a National Cultural Treasure and National Historic Landmark.

And that shouldn’t stop you from checking it out because it’s a true Bohol gem!

9. Maribojoc Mangrove Firefly Watching 🌿

Hop on a quiet, little boat and cruise through the calm waters of the Maribojoc Mangrove Forest. That’s where the magic happens on a firefly-watching tour.

Here’s the cool part: wait until after sunset, and then thousands of fireflies come out all at once!

They light up the whole forest with their blinking lights, almost like a giant Christmas tree. It’s a sight you won’t forget, with all those twinkling lights in the dark.

The fireflies are tiny, but their light is surprisingly bright.

On my next visit to Bohol, I would definitely add this to my itinerary.

10. Panglao Island Beaches 🏖️

The airport in Bohol is located on Panglao Island, thus it’s a tourist hub of the province. On top of that, Panglao Island also offers beautiful beaches.

This island is known for its white sand, the kind that squishes between your fingers and turquoise water that is so clear you can see right down to the colorful fish swimming around.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try some water sports like kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding.

For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, there are plenty of spaces where you can relax and just enjoy the cool sea breeze.

There are also beach bars serving refreshing drinks and delicious local snacks to keep you fueled up for a day of soaking up the sun.

Some popular Panglao Island beaches include Alona Beach, Doljo Beach, and Dumaluan Beach.

11. Balicasag Island 🏝️

This tiny island off Bohol’s coast is a place that will blow your mind underwater.

Cruising over the crystal-clear waters of this island and peering down, you can see a kaleidoscope of colorful coral reefs.

They’re like underwater gardens with all sorts of fish – from tiny, neon-colored fish darting in and out of the coral to graceful angelfish and even playful clownfish peeking out from their anemones.

If you’re lucky, you might even spot a majestic sea turtle gliding along the seabed or a gentle giant manta ray cruising by. The real stars of the show, however, are the whale sharks!

These gentle giants visit the island from November to May. They’re truly massive, but don’t worry, they’re filter feeders so they’re munching on plankton, not people!

As always, be a responsible tourist when swimming with them.

12. Napaling Reef 🪸

Napaling Reef is a haven for divers and snorkelers. It’s the main reason why I went to Bohol last summer – to freedive in the Napaling Crack and the Sardines Run.

Other divers and snorkelers flock here for a reason – other than my two reasons, the coral formations here are incredible.

Corals like giant brains, colorful fans, and branching staghorn corals, all brimming with life.

You’ll also see all sorts of fish – tiny neon damselfish darting around, bright orange clown fish, and maybe even a regal angelfish gliding by.

The best part? The water at Napaling is crystal clear, so you can see everything up close and personal.

📢 Tip: To avoid the crowd, start early like 6 in the morning, and also be careful of jellyfish. I got plenty of stings after our dive last time.

13. Hinagdanan Cave 🪨

Climb down a flight of stairs to enter a giant cavern. It’s like stepping into another world.

Everywhere you look there are these amazing rock formations that look like icicles hanging from the ceiling (stalactites) and pointy spears sticking up from the ground (stalagmites).

Some are even huge!

The best part is the swimming pool at the bottom. The water is crystal clear and cool, perfect for a dip after your climb down.

Just remember, it’s good to wear shoes with good grip because the steps can be a little slippery, and, although well-lighted, bring a flashlight because some parts of the cave can be dark.

Again, if you want to avoid the crowd, visit the cave as early as possible. We went here after our dive in Napaling Reef but there were too many people so we gave it a pass.

14. Cabagnow Cave Pool 💦

Now, going to Anda, Bohol. Cabagnow Cave Pool is like a secret swimming hole with some parts hidden in a cave.

To swim here, you have to descend on a ladder or simply jump to the pool from the surface.

The water is crystal clear and refreshing, especially after the hot walk going there. The coolest thing is that the ceiling is way up high, with light shining down in some parts.

This tourist spot in Bohol is not the biggest place, so it might be crowded during peak season. My friend actually wanted to dive here but decided not because of the crowd.

15. Anda Quinale Beach 🏖️

If you’re tired of the crowd in Panglao Island and is looking for a serene beach experience, Anda Quinale Beach on Bohol’s east coast is your perfect haven.

Unlike the other bustling beach destinations in Bohol, this unspoiled stretch of coastline offers pristine white sand, crystal-clear waters, and a laid-back atmosphere.

Take a dip in the refreshing water, perfect for cooling off on a hot day. If we weren’t in a hurry to get home last time, we probably had most of our time swimming here.

The water is so clear you can see your toes wiggle!

Personally, I think the beaches here are way better than on Panglao Island. I would want to stay at one of the resorts in Anda and do some water activities.

Even more, I could see a glimpse of Camiguin Island (the island with more volcanos than towns!).

16. Can-Umantad Falls 🏞

Can-Umantad Falls is a hidden gem tucked away in the eastern part of Bohol. It’s a bit of a hike down to get there, but totally worth it!

You can actually ask for a habal-habal that costs 100 pesos in two ways if you don’t like to sweat (we opted for this).

It’s also not just one big drop, but a series of cascades tumbling down over rocks. The coolest part is you can climb up some of the rocks behind the falls and get behind the cascading water!

The water is refreshing and perfect for swimming, especially after your hike. Just be careful climbing the rocks, some can be a little slippery.

You can also opt to explore the area with a local guide. They are really knowledgeable and you can also tip them to express your gratitude before leaving the area.

I think Can-Umantad Falls is a beautiful spot that needs more recognition not only to witness a mesmerizing wonder but also to help the beautiful community maintaining the area.

Before I forget, the locals here are so kind and they greet you with “Mabuhay”. They’re very welcoming, full of smiles, and easy to talk with.

17. Cadapdapan Rice Terraces 🌾

We decided to have our lunch at a restaurant overlooking the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces. It’s one of the tourist spots in Bohol that also needs some recognition.

You can see rows and rows of vibrant green rice paddies cascading down the hillsides like a staircase.

It’s amazing to think these terraces were carved by hand by local farmers generations ago.

As you wander through the terraces, you can see the intricate network of paddies snaking up the slopes.

The rice plants sway gently in the breeze, creating a peaceful and calming scene. You might even spot some farmers working in the fields, planting or harvesting their crops.

As for me and my friend, we didn’t see any of that on our last visit since it was the dry season.

One of the coolest things about the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces is that you can get up close to the paddies and walk right in between them on little paths.

There’s also a viewpoint at the top where you can take in the panoramic vista of the entire valley. Just like the restaurant we were in. It’s breathtaking!

18. Alicia Panoramic Park ⛰️

Alicia Panoramic Park is this incredible viewpoint high up in the hills, offering some of the most stunning views in Bohol.

The trek up isn’t too difficult, but it winds through tall grasses and lets you soak in the fresh country air. Once you reach the top, prepare to be amazed!

It’s a vast sea of rolling green hills stretching out before you for miles. You can see little villages tucked away in the valleys, and maybe even a glimpse of the coast in the distance.

The air is clean and fresh, and there’s usually a cool breeze blowing.

The best time to visit Alicia Panoramic Park is definitely at sunrise or sunset.

Watching the sky explode with colors as the sun peeks over the horizon, or bathes the landscape in a warm glow before disappearing, is magical.

They say the views are even more incredible during these times.

There aren’t any fancy restaurants or shops at Alicia Panoramic Park, but that’s part of its charm. It’s a simple, peaceful place to enjoy the beauty of nature.

There are usually some picnic tables and benches where you can relax and take it all in.

If you’re looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of tourist spots in Bohol, and a chance to see some breathtaking scenery, Alicia Panoramic Park is definitely worth the trip.

19. Doljo Beach Sunset 🌅

Going back to Panglao Island, end your day on a romantic note by witnessing a breathtaking sunset at Doljo Beach.

This west coast beach has a calm atmosphere and vibrant colors as the sun dips below the horizon. You can also go to a beachfront restaurant to soak in the magical sunset views while sipping a drink.

We chose to visit the North Zen to experience the sunset and I should say that you may want to be early like before 5 pm to beat the crowd and still have an amazing spot for the golden hour and sunset view.

20. BONUS: Asin Tibuok ✨

If you’re looking for something a little different, check out an Asin Tibuok farm. Asin Tibuok is this special type of salt they make here in Bohol the old-fashioned way.

It’s not like the table salt you have at home.

This stuff is made with seawater, but not just any seawater! They use water from the nearby shore, and it has all these minerals that give the salt a unique flavor.

The process of making Asin Tibuok is fascinating. They take coconut husks, soak them in seawater for months, and then burn them until they turn into charcoal.

Then, they use that special charcoal to filter even more seawater and slowly boil it down in clay pots over a fire.

It takes a lot of time and patience, but the end result is this flaky, pyramid-shaped salt that looks almost like a little mountain or a dinosaur egg.

The coolest part is you can actually see the salt makers at work! They’ll show you all the steps involved in the process and explain the history of Asin Tibuok making in Bohol.

It’s a dying tradition, so it’s important to support these local businesses.

Of course, the best part of any visit to an Asin Tibuok farm is getting to taste the salt itself! They usually let you sample a little bit.

It’s got this smoky, earthy flavor that’s perfect on anything from grilled meats to fresh vegetables.

And if you like it, you can even buy some for 600 pesos to take home as a souvenir.

Is Bohol Worth Visiting?

What is the Best Month to Go to Bohol?

The best time to visit Bohol is during the dry season, which lasts from March to May. Sunny skies and dry ground make it the perfect time to explore the island and get your adventure on.

But if you’re not a fan of crowds and don’t mind the occasional downpour, the shoulder months (June to August and September to February) can be delightful too.

You might even score some good deals on travel and accommodation during these times!

How Do You Get Around in Bohol?

🛺 Tricycles

These are like open-air tuk-tuks, super cute and cheap. They’re perfect for zipping around town or between close spots. Just flag one down on the street and hop in!

🚌 Buses

Buses are a budget-friendly way to travel between bigger towns, especially if you’re on a tight schedule. They can get crowded though, so be prepared.

🛵 Motorbike

If you’re feeling adventurous, renting a motorbike gives you the most freedom. Explore hidden corners of the island and feel the wind in your hair!

But remember, a valid license is a must, and Bohol roads can be bumpy in some parts, so ride safe. This was our mode of transportation while navigating the tourist spots on Panglao Island.

🚕 Taxi

Taxis are a convenient option for short trips around town, especially at night when public transportation is limited. Fare starts at 40 pesos.

🚗 Car Rental

Car rentals are great for groups or families. You can split the cost and travel comfortably with all your stuff. Plus, you can stop whenever you see something interesting.
