I recently visited this amazing island (and let me tell you, it won’t be my last trip!), and the first thing I tackled when planning was finding the right place to stay.
Ideally, for me, it’s gotta be central, close to the cool sights, and kind to my wallet. Safety and good reviews are a must-have, and free breakfast is always a welcome bonus!

Pristine white sand beaches like Alona Beach are a major draw, while the vibrant nightlife scene keeps things lively after dark.
However, it’s important to consider that Panglao Island’s popularity comes with a trade-off. Compared to other areas of Bohol, Panglao can be more crowded and expensive.
If you’re seeking a quieter, more budget-friendly experience, you might want to explore other options.
🏙️ Tagbilaran City
The capital of Bohol is a fantastic option for travelers looking for a central location and a taste of local life.
This bustling hub boasts historical landmarks like the Baclayon Church or the National Museum that showcases the entirety of Bohol. They’re a must-see for history buffs.
Foodies will love exploring the lively market, overflowing with fresh produce and delicious local delicacies.
Plus, Tagbilaran offers convenient transportation options, making it easy to explore other parts of Bohol.
Accommodation choices are plentiful, ranging from budget-friendly hotels to comfortable mid-range options, making it a good fit for various travel styles.
However, Tagbilaran doesn’t have the pristine beaches that Panglao Island is famous for.
If lounging on the beach and diving into crystal-clear waters are high on your priority list, Tagbilaran might not be the ideal spot.
While day trips to nearby Panglao are possible, you’ll sacrifice the convenience of beachfront access.
🗺️ Other Areas in Bohol
Bohol has more to offer than just the usual tourist spots! Adventurers can find amazing places like Anda on the east coast.
This peaceful area has beautiful beaches, perfect for relaxing in the sun. Even have beaches that can compete with the white sand beach of Boracay Island!
The only thing to keep in mind is that Anda is a bit far from popular spots like the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary, so you’ll need to plan ahead for day trips (or stay a night in one of the beautiful resorts in Anda!)
If you want a real adventure, head inland to Bohol. Here, you’ll find small towns that haven’t been touched by a lot of tourists.
You can experience the way of life of Filipinos and see cool things like hidden waterfalls, rice paddies that go up mountainsides, and caves.
The only drawback is that there won’t be as many fancy things around, and the places to stay might be more basic compared to the bigger tourist areas.

Be prepared though, Amorita leans towards the more expensive side. But if you’re looking to treat yourself to something truly special in Bohol, this could be your dream place to stay!
2. Oceanica Resort Panglao (Formerly South Palms Resort) 🏖️
Oceanica Resort Panglao offers everything you need for a relaxing tropical vacation.
Wake up to beautiful ocean views (some rooms even have balconies!), then take a dip in the crystal-clear turquoise water right outside your door.
Prefer a pool? They have one of those too! The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the resort has direct beach access for sunbathing and swimming fun.

Parklane Bohol Resort and Spa is a perfect place outside Tagbilaran and Panglao Island to chill out on your vacation in Bohol without spending too much.
The rooms are comfy, and there are multiple swimming pools to splash around in. If you’re looking to pamper yourself, they even have a spa on-site!
The highlight of this resort is it’s located right on the beach in Anda, so you can step out your door and sink your toes in the sand.

9. Bohol Ecotel 🏨
Bohol Ecotel is a great choice if you’re looking for a clean and comfy place to stay in Tagbilaran City without spending a lot.
It’s in a good and quiet spot for exploring the city center, so you can easily walk to shops and restaurants. Not to mention that they really have great and friendly staffs!
I can vouch for that because this was the first hotel I stayed in Bohol.
The hotel’s hospitality was top-notch. It was so hot when I visited, but they were kind enough to lend me an umbrella.
They also made sure the area outside was safe if you walk alone in day or night, and they were happy to call a tuktuk for me if ever I needed one.
The free breakfast was also perfect! However, during my visit, there was still no elevator so I need to take the stairs up until the third floor.
While it might not have fancy extras like some hotels, it’s perfect for budget-conscious travelers who care more about location and price.
10. Captains Lodge and Bar 🏚️
Captain’s Lodge and Bar on Panglao Island is a great choice for travelers looking for a relaxed and social place to stay without breaking the bank.
This place offers private rooms with air conditioning and refrigerators, making your stay more comfortable.
If you’re looking to meet other travelers, Captain’s Lodge is known for its friendly atmosphere.
Plus, it boasts a convenient location just a short walk from the famous Alona Beach, perfect for swimming and soaking up the sun.
11. Alona Pawikan 🏡
Alona Pawikan is a perfect fit for you if you’re looking for a clean and affordable place to stay on Panglao Island, close to the famous Alona Beach.
It’s like a friendly guesthouse with basic but clean rooms. They have air conditioning, comfy beds, and essentials like a mini fridge, flat screen TV, and free bottled water, coffee, and teas.
They also host daily yoga class and other services such as nail care service and transportation service to specific destinations within Panglao Island and up to the Tagbilaran Ferry Port.
I had the chance to stay in this place and I love how welcoming the staffs are!
They even made sure that I get to make it on my scheduled ferry even though the place was 30mis away from the ferry port and there were heavy traffics at certain areas.
This place is also super close to Alona Beach, so you can be swimming in the ocean in no time! They also offer laundry service and motorbike rentals if you want to explore the rest of Panglao Island.

How Many Days Is Enough in Bohol?
It depends on what you want to do!
If you just want to chill on the beaches of Bohol and see the famous sights, 3 or 4 days is plenty.
But if you want to explore more hidden gems and really get to know the island, aim for 5 to 7 days.

What Month is the Best Month to Visit Bohol, Philippines?
Bohol, just like any other part of the Philippines, is a tropical island with sunshine and warmth all year. The best time or month to visit Bohol depends on what you’re looking for.
If you prefer sunny days with little rain for swimming and exploring outdoors, November to May is ideal. These months are the dry season, perfect for hitting the beach and enjoying clear skies.
April or May are also the months when you can see the Chocolate Hills turning to brown-like Hershey’s kisses.
June to October brings the wet season. While there might be some rain showers, it also means the island gets beautifully green and lush.
This is a good time to visit if you prefer fewer crowds and potentially find better deals on hotels.
Is it Easy to Get Around Bohol?
Getting around Bohol is quite convenient. For short trips within a town or city, tricycles or tuktuks are the most popular choice. They’re affordable and readily available.
If you’re traveling between towns, buses are options and for more freedom and flexibility, riding taxis or renting a motorcycle or car is ideal, especially if you want to explore less crowded areas.
If you prefer a hassle-free trip, you can opt for a package tour. This way, you won’t have to worry about transportation and can simply enjoy the sights.
What to Pack for Bohol
Bohol is hot and humid, but there can be some rain showers too, so pack with both sunshine and sprinkles in mind! Here’s what to pack to make sure you’re comfy and ready for anything:
🩱 Beach stuff: Pack your swimsuit and a sarong or something easy to throw over for swimming. Don’t forget a towel that dries quickly!
👒 Sun protection: The Philippine sun is strong, so bring sunscreen, a hat with a big shade, and sunglasses to keep the glare out of your eyes.
👟 Shoes for walking around: You’ll be doing lots of exploring, so pack comfy shoes. Sandals are good, but if you’re going on any hikes, shoes with good grip are even better.
👕 Clothes that breathe: Pack loose shirts, shorts, and dresses made of light materials that dry quickly. That way you’ll stay cool and feel fresh.
🧥 Just-in-case rain gear: A thin jacket or a rain poncho that folds up small can be a lifesaver if it starts to sprinkle.
